Circles USA welcomes guest blog contributions year-round from all roles in our network, including staff, Circle Leaders, Allies, partners, volunteers, and champions. Whether you have a success story, best practice, or insight to share, we’d love to feature your perspective on our website and social media.
Since 1998, Circles USA has worked to help individuals and families build long-term prosperity by addressing the root causes of poverty in their communities. Our newly updated Policy Platform identifies key systemic issues—such as building social capital, improving health and wellness supports, and advancing equity and democracy—that keep people trapped in poverty.
At Circles, we believe that elevating equity and democracy means amplifying the voices of those hardest hit by economic injustice. Each month, our blog highlights a national awareness campaign that aligns with this mission. We’ll continue to uplift the stories of historically marginalized groups, including women, people with disabilities, Black Americans, and more.
This June, we’re honoring Pride Month by celebrating the many LGBTQIA+ individuals who enrich and sustain our community of practice. Circles is committed to standing with the LGBTQIA+ community and uplifting their voices—especially given the economic disparities queer people face. According to the Human Rights Campaign, 22% of LGBTQ+ adults in the U.S. live in poverty, compared to about 16% of their straight and cisgender peers. This gap underscores the urgency of centering the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people as we work to break down barriers that keep whole communities trapped in poverty.
If you identify as LGBTQIA+ or want to share how you or your local Circles chapter supports LGBTQIA+ community members, we want to hear from you!**
Submit your Pride Month blog idea today via our web portal— and help us build community to end poverty in our lifetime.
**Please note that consent is critical when mentioning or describing LGBTQIA+ individuals in this context, as some people choose not to identify their gender and sexual identities publicly.
